Rupert Sanderson x Karl Lagerfeld Spring 2010 Shoes

I’m pretty sure that collaboration between Rupert Sanderson and Karl Lagerfeld rings a bell to you, as they have collaborated for Lagerfeld’s fall 2009 collection. And because that collaboration has such a huge success, it’s no wonder that, for the second time, designer Rupert Sanderson has been invited once again to design the shoes for Karl Lagerfeld’s spring 2010 line.
For the shoe collection spring 2010, Rupert Sanderson chose to reinterpret two of his favorite creations, one of the best selling models he ever designed: Asteroid and Finesse. The reinterpretation went towards futuristic visions, as Karl Lagerfeld, one of the great giants in the fashion world, desired and dreamed about it. This exclusive re-making of an already historical shoe cannot report but success, as the world is already fascinated about these shoes.
If originally the Asteroids were a simple pair of platform sandals, featuring an 11cm monumental heel, these black calf shoes easily found their new identity as a part of Lagerfeld’s spring 2010 collection. And so was the case of Finesse shoes. What Rupert Sanderson did was a complete make-over, translating its original creation into a glamorous, rock-chic design.
Sanderson found his inspiration into Gio Ponti’s work, who was an Italian architect. The high heels remained as high as the original model, as is geometrically inspired, but the ankle straps have been modified. They now go under the sole, underneath the foot, a very cosmopolitan perspective and also a “dominatrix feel”, as described on Rupert Sanderson’s official website.
And this is not it. These shoes are very special, and if you’re thinking to purchase a pair for yourself, you should know that these shoes are made to order. Other details were cleverly inserted in this shoe collection, just like that shot spray-stenciled on the front of some shoes, featuring Lagerfeld as a guitar hero. The shoes come in various fabrics, from metallic silver leather to soft ice-white suede, and in a not so restrictive range of colors.
